Could be, Jack. The ones I used were a straight-sided bottle type, not flared out like the bottle of a GZ34 or something commonly substituted (and way inferior). Mullards?BillC
probably. I have one big bottle, Its very *squat*. rather short, and extremely thick, maybe about 50% wider than the mullard(which usually say made in britain). Mullard were so good that most other companies didn't bother to compete. its quite common for them to be labeled RCA or GE etc.

And shucks! There was a pair of Mullards (although the photo showed Philips) for sale on e-Bay last week, and the bidding started at $25.
It's apparently tough to find a genuine 5AR4.
