Looking to replace my old solid state preamp{vintage '92} with a tube unit under $1000. New or used. The goal is to flesh out the sound, esp.in the midrange and not accentuate the highs.I've heard good things about the Wright WLA-12 and Fi Y. Rest of system is Rotel 971cd,Paradigm ref.100{orig.version},Counterpoint nps100mk2 amp{hybrid-tube input,SS output}.Oh,a balance control would be nice but not mandatory.Any help would be appreciated.

If you can handle a simple kit, this is the best deal out there. I know of a sound engineer that swears it beats out pre amps that he has that cost as much as $9,000.00. I built one, and don't have any mega dollar pre amps to compare it to, but mine sounds wonderful. Here's the link
