I am interested in upgrading my bedroom int. amp: JoLida 302a, Svetlana EL34s - RAM 12ax7s - Golden Dragon 12at7s. MIT Z-cord II power cord and all MIT Terminator 2 interconnects and bi-wired cables to B&W 600 speakers with two building bricks on each. Musical Concepts epoch VII stable platter CD player. I have tried the ensemble tube sox, Black Diamond Cones, a 1.5 thick garden brick between CD and amp, and a VPI brick to no remarkable success. Do you have any suggestions? New tubes?Thank you,
Mike

If you could find a smooth plate Telefunken 12AX7/ECC83 and a
Telefunken 12AT7/ECC81. That amp would be in a different league
It's like changing a new system. I don't like G.E i stay away
from those tubes my second choice are Sylvania's or Mullards.
You did not say or I do not know if you have modified it. If you can go inside there are many ways to bring out the best in your amp.Upgrade the volume pot and a number of other things.
Coupling caps, replace rectifiers with HEXFRED'S or UF4007 with snubbers.Go to Tweakers Asylum and do a search.
My suggestion would be to try these mods before you do a lot of the other things you mentioned.
Hi Mike:You did not state what your bedroom sounds like, and what your upgrade goals are. If the Jolida sounds a little dull, I would change the power tubes to Sovtek EL-34WXT. And you can experiment with the G.E. 6201s (a 12AT7), which are plentiful and inexpensive. If you find the G.E.s too unrefined and recessed in the mids, go with either the Sylvania Gold Brand 6201 or CBS 7728. The latter is my favorite 12AT7 type.
Or, you can improve the whole system by getting a Vansever Reference 85 powerline conditioner. This unit is one of the few which will NOT artificially boost the bass. It is clean, transparent, and dynamic. I personally would spend the $$$ on this, rather than expensive NOS tubes. Re-tubing the Jolida with Mullard EL-34s, CBS 7728s, and any of the top-grade NOS 12AX7s might end up costing more than the Jolida itself! Hint: talk to Mike Vansevers himself, and order any of his products in the color of your choice. I get mine in white.
BTW, I believe you offered me advice concerning power outlet upgrades. Thank you very much!!! I changed out my main system with the Levitons and ordered a Wattgate. Tomorrow I'll change out my bedroom system. Over the weekend, I changed out my brother's B&K/Snell type D speakers home theater system outlets with Leviton 5352 outlets. WOW!!! I wish all inmates could have a chance to realize what an incredible impovement a few bucks on an outlet can make.
The Wattagate 381 is kinda frustrating to install, because once you take out the screws, they're hard to put back. But if you do not take out the screw, you'll have a difficult time bending the AC wires around the screws.Give the Wattagate two full days to burn in. For now, they are the cleanest, most honest duplex outlet I've tried. I'm sure the competition will heat up, but for now, they're the most cost-effective upgrade I can think of. They're even better, dollar for dollar, than ASC Tube Traps and Echobusters' Bassbusters.
In my house, there are four AC circuits. Each circuit has several outlets. If I replace one of the outlets on a circuit, the other outlets improve in performance, as well. It doesn't make sense to install Wattagate 381s at every point. That would cost too much. I would suggest getting a cheaper duplex for the outlets you rarely use. My favorite is for this purpose is the Purist Audio cryogenically-treated outlet, $30 each. These are easy to install, because you can remove the screws, stick the loose screw into the looped AC wires, then screw the thing back into the duplex outlet.
While you're at it, make sure you vacuum the inside of the wall. Mine were totally dirty and crumbling. I also took a Q-tip and used AQ Ultra Connect to clean off the AC wires themselves.
Not only do all of my electronics work better, but there seems to be less buzzing in the air. I don't know why I didn't replace the outlets years ago...
Thank you. I'll try hooking up my Tice Power Block 3c to hear the improvements. My goal less distortion in all areas, especially around the upper midrange and lower treble.
Other tubes I have tried are the Mesa EL34s as well as 12AX7s and the stock Sovtek 12s that came with it.
