Back in the "old" days of Scott, Fisher, Knight and others.....did these guys align themselves with just "one" tube manufacturer? I have seen many Knight branded tubes, that I think are Mullards. I have seen Scott branded tubes..I have no idea who made them.
So....did these guys just run with one tube maker? (I assume that they would not use the same tube that the "other" guy used...but I don't know). Did they take the least costly tube available at the time, from any tube maker? Or did they use the best tube available so they could have braggin' rights?Bottom line...if you find a tube branded Knight..what manufacture do you have? Same question, but with Scott and Fisher. WHO MADE EM?
Follow Ups:
I've seen just about every manufacturer of tubes represented with a "Scott" or "Fisher" label. But the 12AX7 were almost always Amperex-Holland or Telefunken in both brands. I've seen 7189s from GE, Mullard and Telefunken and the same for EL84s--and that's for both brands. I could go on and on. . .
Here's what i've seen
Sherwood tuners - Sylvania tubes in RF sections
Sherwood Amps S5000 - 7189's - Amperex Bugle Boy, 12AX7 - Amperex, Mullard
Fisher Tuners, Amps, Recievers - 12AX7, 12AT7 - Telefunken. EL84's - Telefunken RF tubes - mix, including RCA
Heathkit Amps - 12AX7 - Mullard
Dynaco Amps, preamps - EL34's - Mullard. 12AX7's - Telefunken 7199's RCA
BF
...In the U.S. in those days, the two largest tube manufacturers were Sylvania, and RCA---often they'd make a certain type of tube ,based on specifications from a company--such as Lafayette, Knight, EICO, etc.....As for Radio Shack tubes, I suspect they're made in China or Taiwan since the 1980's---
Who makes RS tubes?
