Hi,Anybody knows what tubes the Earmax uses?
I have one and I think the tubes are due for replacement.
I know the centre tube is an ECC81 but have no idea what tubes are flanking it.
Any input would be great!
Thanx.
Chris

Hi,
From a review:
"It uses three dual-triode tubes-one 12AT7 input tube, and two 6GM8 output tubes" which is one ECC81 - as said - and two ECC86 (for output).

... but the older models use ECC88/6DJ8.
That change from ECC88 to 6GM8 was done a couple of years ago.

I have a (presumably) older model marked simply Brocksieper that I bought used. It had 6GM8s in it? COuld it have been made for 6Dj8s? How can I tell? What would happen if I put 6DJ8s in it?
Well it seems that there are 2 models.
Please check the link of the European supplier:
http://www.audiophileclub.co.uk/earmax.htmlThe Pro model uses 1x ECC81 and 2x ECC88, and seems to be still in production.
The US link is:
http://www.audioadvancements.com/
but it has much less info. The ECC88 and ECC86 are different tubes with different pinouts.
Jorge
Sorry, 6DJ8 and 6GM8 have the same pinout. However different electrical parameters.
Jorge
Hi,
One way to check it out could be to look at the tube voltage. A ECC88 takes slightly more than 90V while a ECC86 likes about 30V. Meassure between pin 6 and 8 or 1 and 3.
Is the bottom lid opened? There may be some marking inside...
