I can unreservedly recommend the JJ E88CC (6922).
You can spend big bucks on NOS 6922s, but there's no need. The JJ sounds so good it replaced all the Telefunkens and Amperex in my system. They're inexpensive as well. Figure on @ $60 - $70 per pair.
The tubes in the AH! are merely a buffer and as such they do NO amplification. So big money spent on top-shelf testing tubes is probably a waste of money.
And yes, that was a great player. I had one for over ten years. I gave it to a friend after I bought a Primaluna. That friend is still using and enjoying it.

Sondek,
Thank you for your reply.
Having never bought tubes before, what/who is a good source to purchase from?

Bob
I have been very pleased with the service I've received at The Tube Depot. There are certainly other vendors, but have been dealing with TD for several years and never disappointed.FWIW, I got significant improvements from my AH! with a few simple tweaks. Most of that from damping the 'rings like a damned bell' sheet metal cover. Some Dynamat, or better yet, some of those viscoelastic damping sheets they used to sell at Music Direct. Some Blu Tack on the bottom (under side) of the CD tray to further damp internal vibrations - just a couple of little bits will do the trick. That plastic CD tray vibrates and rattles like crazy and the BluTack kills all those resonances. Just be careful not to put any where it might interfere with open/close of the drawer. Also, trash that POS captive power cord. Some better wire and a decent AC connector will do wonders. Finally, an upgrade to the internal fuse helps a bunch. I used a run of the mill HiFi Tuning fuse on mine - I've found those fancy fuses are more effective with digital gear than analog. Any one of these tweaks will advance the performance, but when they're all implemented together it lifts that humble player into another realm.
That's alls I got. Hope you find something in this you can use.

Thanks again! When I have some free time,I'll open it up and work on the tweaks and also check the link you sent.

Bob
