They are 9 pin 6sn7s

A great replacement for a 12au7 but you have to do a little work. The 6cg7 is a much better tube than a 12au7 so it's worth it.

I do have a 6SN7 based preamp (Cary SLP 05) I guess I'd need adapters? (I think I already have a couple of 9 pin adapters.)

I also have a 12au7 based preamp that I am not using anymore (Cary SLP 90). When you say "a little work," what does that entail?

  The benefit of changing a 12AU7 to a more linear tube depends on how the 'AU7 is being used. If it's a cathode follower, the effort is wasted. Same is likely true if it's a long tail pair (due to the inherent degeneration of this topology), or if it's inside a 20dB feedback loop.

  There is no upgrade from a 6SN7 to a 6CG7. I use Sylvania Y plate 6SN7 for best sound. Sylvania 6SN7GTA are best year, not 6SN7GTB.

    Best I've found are the angled plate versions, whatever the maker.
    
    But a better 6SN7 is a CV1135/CV6. That's very good indeed but you need 2 plus top caps (reversed from 2C22)

  As stated good 12AU7 replacement. however, you have to remove jumper on pins 4 & 5. Then, remove filament wire on 12AU7 pin 9 and place on either pin 4 or 5 that does not have any wire connected. Major upgrade from a 12AU7. Best sounding 6CG7 are Raytheon 280 code black plate made in the USA. Careful as most Raytheon are made in Japan.
