...The seller was a great guy, but, to be honest I don't really care for their sound as I thought I would.
Follow Ups:
Holy Macaroni! I thin it is time to liquidate some of my 6SN7 stash. Then before I spend it somewhere else, spend it as toy $$ to turn up one of the Diesels... :) PD nozzle install/pop adjustment is a $$$ job...LOL
cheers,
Douglas
Friend, I would not hurt thee for the world...but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.
Good job!
For a warmer sound try the RCAs - the older gray glass ones sound nice $99 pair...for a 6db increase in bass and good extension try the Ken Rad angled plates...about $200 pair.
Best,
P
Thanks.
the RCA VT 231 has a reputation as a spectacular tube for small ensemble or jazz, or other acoustic (especially female voice) music. It's just not very good at large scale stuff, and would not be a good choice if rock is your thing.
My opinion, for what it's worth. Your mileage may vary.
Thanks. Now gotta find an honest vendor...
Yes...perfect!
Paul
Exactly, I needed warmer sound, somehow I had an impression that these Syls have that tone, but they're quite revealing, the opposite of what I wanted, too much highs, otherwise fine tubes. Will try some others when funds allow.
