In Reply to: RE: my bias is running away on one side even with the bias backed all the way off on that side! posted by tubular.well on July 23, 2020 at 03:44:39
Sorry, I probably could have simplified my post/question by about ten times if I would have simply typed that the bias is running away on the RIGHT SIDE ONLY (regardless of which tubes I put in the right side--in other words not following the tubes). Not only that, this is happening with the bias for the right side backed all the way off.
Could be a leaky cap, could be broken bias pot or cap.Open up
and start measuring, you probably not need any powertubes installed to
pinpoint the fault.
However, tubes that has redplated are no longer reliable, do replace them!
Thank you, TubularWell.
I was wondering, myself, if it was the bias pot, as normally when the bias pot is backed all the way off, it needs quite a bit of screwing in until you start to see current coming up on the multi-meter. (As it is, very shortly after I turn the amp on, with the pot backed all the way out, current starts coming up & & rising in a hurry.)
I was going to try a call to Cary after 1PM today & go from there.
