Hello - I'm new to this group and purchased my first Tube Amp (Yaqin MC-13S) a little over a year ago. Anyway, I'm looking for a bit more bass from my Amp and have been thinking to possibly roll my pre-amp 12AX7 tubes with the Mullard E180CC / 5965 tubes. I know of others who have done this exact replacement on this same Tube Amp and say its an improvement on the low/bass end. Has anyone else replaced their 12AX7 with the Mullard E180CC / 5965 tubes? Experience? Thoughts?
Thanks!

You are providing a limited set of information-
What are the speakers?
2-Way?, 3-Way?, are they capable of delivering signal below 100 Hz?
What is the Pre-Amp?
What are your sources?. Turn table?, tape ?, CD?, MP-3?
Have you experimented with speaker placement?
The performance of an input dual triode, while critical, may not be able to overcome the limitations of devices further down the playback chain....
Happy Listening
12AX7 can be replaced with ECC83 or any of it's variants. No other tube
will fit the amp.
If you want more bass : turn up the bass control. You have none ? Change preamp to one that has a bass control.

"Still Working the Problem"
Excellent work sleuthing that out of the archives!
They may be pin compatible, but they are far from electrically equivalent.
The manufacturer calls for a 12AX7 for a reason.
If you wanna roll something that's much closer electrically, to the 12AX7, go for a 5751. Much safer bet than the 12AV7.
I like JJs 5751. Sounds good, is cheap, and easy to find.
Have you exhausted all 12AX7 possibilities? JJs new frame-grid E83CC is a fantastic tube. Not as cheap as their 5751s, but still a huge bargain at ~$30 each.
Also, you may want click on FAQ above, and look for Joe's Tube Lore. A very good reference.
"If you wanna roll something that's much closer electrically, to the 12AX7, go for a 5751. Much safer bet than the 12AV7. " The idea is to replace the 12AX7 with the Mullard E180CC / 5965. NOT the 12AV7. But I will look into the 5751 and Joes Tube Lore.
The 5965 is a 12AV7. They are nearly identical in electrical specs. The 5965 was designed for use in computers where the plates are switched off for significant periods of time.
Thanks for the clarification. Ive since confirmed that this scenario (replacing 12AX7 with Mullard E180CC / 5695) has been done and it works. But is experimental at best... Being new to tubes Im not inclined to "experiment" just yet...
Yeah, I wouldn't do that. 12AV7 has gain factor of only 37, vs 100 for 12ax7. If you want to get a bit more bass, try old stock Mullard or RCA Black plates.
