JB - I looked at my stash and the RCA's, Raytheon's, and National Union's all have round plates. These are all WW2 vintage and original i.e. not made by anybody else. NU's tend to be microphonic but sound real nice.
The best and most magical I have ever tried are the Sylvania's which have round plates. There's something they used in the construction that makes for the clearest cleanest high end above all the others.

Are you sure you're not looking at 6sL7s? Almost all of those have round plates.
I have over 100 vintage 6sn7s and the only ones with round plates are the tung sols.
I did find one reference to the "rare" round plate RCA 6sn7.

I should have updated my tube list as I probably sold them or put them somewhere IDK. I have one branded Syl but it may be re-labeled. The 2 Sylvania's I had were chrome throughout. My mem is failing me. I had 2 mono blocks I converted to 6sn7 driver tubes long gone. I do have a bunch of 12sl7's from past projects sitting around here somewhere.

Here's part of my collection of 6sn7s. There are 105 6sn7s pictured. None of these are round plate.
I guess I miss out. :-)Tre'
