Go with four quiet SR Schottky SS diodes in a full wave bridge in each amp and forget having to replace anything. They will outlive you.You can then go about increasing the storage of each amp's PSU with chokes and higher capacitance. The space where the GZ34 was can be used for a nice big fat capacitor ;-)!
[IF you do use electrolytics, bypass the last two with film caps!]
A significantly bigger PSU just will be audible, more RMS power and possibly more headroom above that.
Quieter? Possibly.

I agree especially in a st70 derivative. One gz34 isn't really enough. follow the diodes with a 50ohm 10w resistor to drop the voltage to that of the gz34.
I'd only use a dropping resistor if the St70 circuit runs the PP EL34s hard.
IIRC you can get a bit more than 35Wpc RMS from PP EL34s.
So, I'd rethink the circuit to allow for just that.
