In Reply to: RE: 6U8 vs 6GH8 vs 6BL8 sub for 7199 needed posted by airtime on July 16, 2017 at 19:44:11
The 7199 seems to be available on eBay at $30-50 each or so. It's foolish to rewire the sockets and switch to a less linear tube type for this cost. The replacement will last a long time.

Follow Ups:
I still have some fresh 7199. But i also experienced that some
recent purchases is of questionable value, i've seen old pulls sold
as "NOS" and i have got noisy ones.I'm reluctant to sell the bad 7199 i got from ebay, i think i have to
scrap them. I guess that's why they were so cheap. Watch out for such
tubes!, go for GB-1252 och 6u8/ECF82 instead and invest in rewiring the sockets.

I stocked up on NOS Sylvania and RCA 7199 tubes, years ago. Very hard to find adequate subs, for those amps that take these.
I'm glad NOS or ANOS have dropped back to around $50-75, each. Prices were around $100 each for legit NOS... just 5-10 years ago.
Someone, must have found a hidden treasure box!

I decided to rewire the socket for 6U8 types but I'm buying a Amperex gold pin E80CF/7643.
Let me tell ya, as I was starting rewiring that socket out in the Arizona heat I WOULD have paid any price just to replace those tubes. But the job is done and the 7643s are on their way.
Arizona July heat would have had my CC out before the soldering was warm...or I would have carved it up to run something better by a long shot.
