When powered, the 1629 Magic tube glows 3/4 of a full circle with the remaining 1/4 blank which response to change in power/signal.
My question is, by looking at the tube's internal, how does one tell which which part of the magic tube is the "blank" portion of the tube? I want to orient the tube so that the blank 1/4 "V" shape is in the 12 o'clock position.
Follow Ups:
The deflection area should be in line with the socket key.
"The plane of the ray-control electrode passes through the tube axis and base key."

Thanks you for the replies.
Just to clarify, when you say "The plane of the ray-control electrode passes through the tube axis and base key" do you mean that the top of the "shadow V" will be inline with the guide pin/socket key?
That's a quote from RCA, not me. The company is saying that the shadow will open up toward the key. Whether that's always true, and whether it holds for other brands, I don't know.

They are usually mounted in a clamp arrangement so you can rotate the tube, centering the image wherever you want it. Power it up and rotate as needed.
I know of no other way to tell without powering it up.
