Yes, I confess..
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa..
I confess I have been running my Mk III monos with (gasp!) different manufacturers KT88s in each amp!!
-They just seem to complement each other and deliver a superior hybrid sound than either brand used homogeneously. Kind of like blended wines (another purist no-no).
The same result does not obtain if the diferent brands are "mixed" in each mono. I'll keep it up until I discover a more satisfactory (to me) result.
I guess I'm just a kooky rebel-type guy.
Any other 'sinners' out there??

you have different speakers for each channel!
Just kidding of course. What ever pleases the individual's ears.

I'll admit that your confession gave me a panic attack...
Have you tried same/similar in your Don Allen KT88 monos?
P.S. Blended wines are far from "purist no-nos" -- e.g., most Bordeaux.
P.P.S. I'm not here to tell anyone how to enjoy their KT88s -- or their wines. Whatever works for you!
hardly ever...
I did try it with the D.A. monos on one occasion, and I must say, though I have not made a consistent practice of it, it was not objectionable.
Kind of like riding a an asian motorcycle..

Lol!
Very nice one!
i drive different tire brands on my car wheels. no problem!
"How the fuck did our oil come under their sand?"
no panic ....if you know what you are doing you may have beautiful
surprises.
I told before ,serious and professional rebranders ,like united ,
often do this in the past .
Your amp circuit does not read the brand.
I don't recommend this to novice ...but if you are experienced it
works (another winning mix :el 34 sed and el 34 rft)
This is an asylum.....
on occasion that other 'inmates' share one's alternate reality.

Yes i did
mixed power(el 34 b t-s reissue with el34 eh )and signal tubes
(5751 rca bp triple mica with 5751 ge srd)obtaininig the best
sound for the tubes i had on hands in that moment;always tested
and matched on a tube tester before .
The very same thing was done by some "rebrander"in the past
(eg:united,national,etc)
Although I don't mix and match in the same amp, I am currently running Sylvania 6GE5's in one of my Acoustat servo-charge amps and GE 6GE5's in the other. It wasn't a conscious move either. It was kind of unconscious move on my part. It sounded fine with no real obvious differences, and after I finally figured out what I'd done I decided to leave it that way. I'll get around to swapping them out one of these days.
Wow, I've never heard of some one doing that intentionally??? In the old says we did it simply because of being cheap and not really caring much about "audio".
But if it works and you enjoy it then run with it.
Just curious what brands are you using? And are those Dynaco MKIII?
-go figure. The current 'blend' is GL reissue and Shuguang '88s. Mk IIIs are Dynaco with VTA octal boards.
The Shuguang bring a little more "chime" to the mix, the virtues of the Russian GL are well documented. Both have good mids and low-end extension, and seem to play together nicely.
