I recently purchased 8 Tung-Sol EL34B to replace the stock tubes in my PrimaLuna. Sound is fantastic, a definite improvement on the stock EL34s, which has only improved after a good 60-70 hours play time.
That said, there is a strange noise coming from the tubes, almost a hiss (hard to describe). The noise isn't coming through the speakers, which are perfectly quiet, nor does it change with volume.
Have tried swapping in and out with the stock tubes to see if it's just one or two bad Tung-Sol tubes but seems to be consistent across all.
Anyone experienced anything similar with these tubes/other tubes?

Thanks both.
Gave the pins and sockets a good working over with Deoxit, to no avail. Listening closer its more of a mechanical buzzing noise, which from a distance sounds like a hiss.
That said, the cleaning definitely had an effect on the sound, in a good way! So well worth it even if it hasn't solved the Tung-Sol buzz.
Might just have to use this as an excuse to check out some Gold Lion KT88s.
Clean the sockets and tube pins well to ensure the tubes are making good contact with the tube pins. Look at my FAQ post (link below) for some good info on it. Don't cut corners - do a real thorough job. The amp will benefit no matter what the ultimate issue is.
That cleaning may take care of it - but if ALL the tubes are making the noise it pretty well rules out the idea of bad tubes. I mean - maybe 1 or 2 could be bad, but all 8? Assuming they came from a decent vendor I doubt that is even possible.
Let us know what you find.
Try cleaning the sockets and tube pins with cleaner. I like Deoxit D100. Work tubes into and out of sockets, a few times to insure thorough cleaning. If this doesn't work, you may have defective tubes. Get a refund or another set.
Good luck!
