Are your vintage 12AX7 tubes RCA or Sylvania? British Mullard or Dutch Philips? German TFK or Valvo? Hungarian Tungsram?
Thanks!

You are fortunate because you like a relatively easy old stock 12AX7 to find at a low price. If you wanted good old NOS Mullard 12AX7s you would have to ante up a lot of money and may get used tubes, not NOS,
The 12AU7s in current production I have been happy with, is the JJ. I must admit however that I use an expensive Amperex 12AU7 variant the 7316. in most applications.
I have 2XGE 12AX7s($20) and 2X Sylvania 5963, 12AU7($13).
Tried the Gold Lion 12AT7 in another amp and they sounded very boring. Like to opposite of sound that would hold my interest for any length of time.
Various other current production 12XX7 tubes had glare, harshness, lack of bass response, or just sounded "distant".
So far I have only known vintage tubes to have that "just right" sound.
I cannot comment on vintage output tubes since I have never heard any, but from what I've read the current production ones are good enough that the vintage ones are most likely a huge waste of money.
