They remind me a little of my 1625 tubes. I've got 32 smoked glass 1625 tubes made by Hytron in Salem, MA in 1943.

I'd love to hear the 350s some time, but it'll likely never happen. I am quite happy with the Reflector 6P3S-E and the Genalex KT66 re-issues however.

Feel free to put a couple in the my W.E. 142 amp when you're done with the restoration.

Look at those...an almost matched quintet, plus another good pair...
I know, these are just your duds, right ? Like the last photo of a pile of 34s you posted not long ago...more duds...LOL...

I have only nine metal based GZ34s. I sold four of them.

addition to the retirement portfolio. That last one didn't survive the hibernation.
Sell a couple now and then to support this decadent hobby.
Do these REALLY sound that much different than a 6l6G? They sure look cool.
I don't think they sound any better but they do last longer. The old 6L6g and the RCA black plates and the 6PS3-E are all tough 6L6s to beat sonically.

Perhaps it was the old late '30s Zenith console radio I had with the G glass 6L6. It was so smooth & open sounding.
Best sounding 6L6s ever made Michael.
Indeed it is.

They were fantastic, too...certainly the sweetest sounding....
That's what I have most of along with the RCA 6L6gc black plates.I have at least 81 of those KT66 Gray glass with 17 of them being NOS/NIB.The RCA black plate 6L6gc I have 111 last count and the 6L6g,about 93 of those.
When the New Sensor Genelex KT66 matched the sound of the gray glass,I literally parked them.It also caused the vintage prices on KT66 GECs to take a major hit.

Hi Michael.
You have said several times that the Gold Lion reissue KT66 equals the GEC gray glass KT66. I have been running them in my amp quite a bit over the last year and agree they are an excellent sounding tube. But......in my humble opinion they are not the equal of the greyglass. They have a more "modern sound" to them-- brighter and less rich in the midrange. Less of the "midrange magic" that the greyglass (and to a lesser extent the clear glass GEC) provide.
Check Ebay to see the ridiculous prices vintage KT66 are going for. Even hamfest tube dealers are charging $100 and up per tube these days. Very thankful that the reissues are a good sounding tube. But the greyglass are still the best ( except for those 350s maybe- never been able to find a quad to try).
I'd like 8 please...Also, I want them at the period price, which I'm guessing was under $5.00?
I don't know if my amp puts these in their best light since it's an auto bias setup, but after trying several types , I think the 6L6G sounds the most realistic.
These RCA's are a mishmash of 50-60's vintage.
