Just thought I'd revive this thread. An audio friend of mine did give the amp a going over and a general clean bill of health. I've used it a handful of times [mono system] over the past couple years.Recently, I've had conversations with Mike Samra and am considering having him update the electrolytics for me. Mike can update the components in a way that, if need be, could be undone and the amp put back in its original configuration. I've been looking at having a decent mono preamp built for it as well.

Mike Samra is very helpful and a good guy, from my experiences. He will treat your amp right. Highly recommended.

And so it begins.... The W.E. is now in Mike's hands for a thorough going over. I'll have to come up with a decent mono preamp for it with a good phono section. Mike can experiment with a couple of his. I did try a Heathkit WA-P2 ... but wasn't overly impressed with it. Maybe a newly built one [Aric]?.... maybe something earlier [McIntosh C-8]? I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Project Complete.
After much discussion with Mike on this, I picked up a decent Fisher 80C preamp and sent it to him to go through. To say Mike did an excellent job on the 80C is still an understatement. He went the extra mile on this rebuild and the sound this combination produces is proof. I've had the chance to listen to a few mono LPs [Empire 598 turntable] and some CDs [Sony CDP970 player] and must say that this WE142A/Fisher80C combination is remarkable. Mike is a perfectionist and very enthusiastic about this hobby. I'm reminded of this every time I listen to this system. Thanks again Mike!
We're rounding the final turn on this amp. Mike is putting the finishing touches on it. I came across a nice old EV 12TRXB in an original Aristocrat cabinet to try with the amp/preamp when it comes back to me.
