AFAIK, the Sylvania 6550, GE 6550A, and TS 6550 all have similar dissipation ratings.

Oh interesting. For some reason I thought that they could be a bit lower. Could the GE just take more abuse?
Tube rating can be confusing because three different ratings systems were in use during the prime tube years: Design Center (most conservative), Design Maximum (moderate conservative) and Absolute Maximum (least conservative). Tungsol 6550s (genuine) were originally rated @ 35W under Design Cemter but were later up-rated to 42W under Design Maximum system. GE 6550A were released with Design Max rating of 42W and never carried a Design Center rating AFAIK. Not sure where Sylvania fits into all this. They were not as widely used as Tungsol or GE.
