I was actually told by VTL that this would cost in the upper $2k range... I asked them why it wasn't cheaper to compare with say, the CJ integrated, but then they said it simply costs more, esp with the active preamp stage. I guess they wanted to put it in a niche between the CJ and ARC units.

At mid $2k range, that seems definitely higher than what the feelers were at WCES.
