Okay, my 2¢ worth ... I've experienced bunches and bunches of different tubes of that type in the phono section of my old Counterpoint 3k. My all around favorite was the Tele 6922. It was the most balanced and tonally correct tube I tried. Second favorite was the Siemens 7308. Third favorite was garden variety Bugle Boy 6DJ8. The Tele's are the best of all worlds. Very nearly as extended on both ends as the Siemens, but with more flesh on the mid-range bones like Amperex. I wish you the best of luck finding any of those you or I mentioned that are quiet enough for phono use. Be prepared to fork over lots of cash when you do find them.

Thanks so much for the advice, I ended up pulling the trigger on some 60's Telefunken E88CC / 6922's. I'll post a follow-up once they've been broken in.

You are entirely welcome. I only hope you enjoy them as much I've enjoyed mine.
