In my job as a service techie I use an ink rubber (eraser) ie the blue end of an old fashioned eraser, for cleaning contacts edge connectors etc. There's just enough abrasive in the rubber to do a good job without stripping off gold plating etc. Try it

I leaned this from an old Navy radio tech.

Interesting, I got the dodge from an old navy guy too when I was a wee apprentice back in the mid 1970s

You are British so when you say Dodge even tho you didn't capitalize it,I assume you are referring to a truck or car? BTW,do you run vintage ham gear? I'm an AMer with includes my Racal RA-17.

A "dodge" is an unofficial way of fixing something or getting yourself out of trouble not a make of motor vehicle. but of course you know that really :o)
I do have a ham licence and yes I do know the venerable RA17 22 tube waddley loop HF RX. Ive had a few of these and they are excellent for CW work. I do still have a pristine Murphy B40D that I have used on air with a companion homebrewed TX. Don't use Ancient Mode here mostly QRP CW due to close neighbours and space limitations.
great to have hobbies aint itTodd
