Agreed.
The black plate 12AX7s that he sent with the unit work well but I like the Teles just as you do and I agree totally about the 7189s..You can't use EL84s in a Sherwood as they won't live very long.

Honest amplification is better than excessive 2nd order distortion anytime.

Talking about RCA 12AX7 black plate? Never heard a Tele outperform a RCA 12AX7 black plate. Want to sell those black plate tubes to me?

  Oh I agree that the black plates are wonderful and they sound as good or better than the Teles depending on where they are used.They tend to be a bit more microphonic than the Teles when they get old and are run hard.
