I am wondering what I should expect from Sylvania 6550 output tubes with Cary SLI-80 integrated amplifier?
I purchased it new 11 years ago, and so far I have used vintage TS 6550, GEC KT88's, various EL-34s and currently reissue GL KT88.
Are the Sylvania 6550 output tubes similar sonically to JAN GE 6550A tubes which I also used?

FWIW I found KT88's preferable to both 6550's and EL-34's in my SLI-80. The KT88's delivered more (and much tighter) low end. The EL-34's had the least amount of bass out of three tube types, and the 6550's were somewhere in the middle. That being said, the SLI-80 is an exceptional integrated and will sound great with just about any model/brand of tube it accepts.
The SLI-80 sounded worse with EL-34s than the SLI-50, which was more liquid, though less powerful.
I start to doubt that I should really order the Sylvania 6550 tubes while I have lots of other vintage tubes (though I must admit I am curious)...
Just an FYI
The link that lights up takes you to a Dell Computers Web Site. Not TC tubes, but it's easy to get to the page you wanted us to see.

Strange...the link I provided leads straight to TC Tubes...
There is no clickable link in akolegov's post. If you're seeing one then you have spyware, adware, or some other form of undesirable software on your PC.
...you have to copy and paste it.

The link works fine for me this morning. Those look like GE 6550A's. I have a quad of Sylvania 6550's and they are actually MO KT88's. I don't think Sylvania made 6550's or KT88's.
I'm using Chrome on a PC and for me, that isn't an active link, it's a hypertext address which needs to be copied and pasted into a new window to access the page. Maybe with a different browser and/or on a Mac it'd work. The link URL below is active and clickable on my machine.
As to Sylvania not making the 6550 type tube. Issue 19 of Vacuum Tube Valley devotes a good deal of space to the 6550 and KT88 types. In an article by Charlie Kittleson (copyright 2003) entitled "6550/KT88 Shootout: Hi Fi" he states, in part, regarding the Sylvania 6550:
Philips/Sylvania 6550
In 1971, responding to the demand for 6550-type tubes, Philips (Sylvania) introduced their version of the 6550. It is the smallest size, compared to other 6550s, and has a straight-sided glass envelope. Sonically, the Philips 6550 is warmer sounding and more like a super-sized EL34."
The OP states that he didn't care for the EL34 in this application so perhaps he may wish to pass on the Sylvania 6550 given the above reviewer's comment.

The link works fine for me in Firefox but not IE. Joe your link works in IE and Firefox.
I am still curious but I question the need to order these tubes (I'd rather order Ei KT-90).

To me the Ei KT90 sounds very similar to the EL34 in the mids but with much better bass and highs. Fantastic sound IMO.
Link works for me. Think you may need to velar your cache.
