nos gz37 ten years ago when I though 50$ was too dear! Why cant the chinese make a good gz37?

Why can't the Chinese make some great XYZ123 tubes. That is not just an idle question. Why does it seem that the old US and Western European tubes sound better than what the Chinese make today. I don't think people would truly suggest that even the Treasures and Psvanes are actually better sounding than the better NOS tubes that are so highly prized.
I must say though, that I have been impressed with the Russian made GL KT-88s and appear not to be alone. The price of NOS British GLs while still very high has dropped it seems as a result of these better current production tubes. It does give one hope that truly fine tubes can still be made if there is a market willing to pay relatively high prices. The Easter European m hand made tubes are another example. The trick is getting a mass production tube to sound as good as a NOS long plate Blackburn Mullard 12AX7!

No one has figured out how to build a vintage sounding Mullard 12AX7 long plate. The Mullard is not exactly as ultra clear sounding as a Brimar CV4004, but still has all the details & is more musical.
come on, stay honest! people who claim not to enjoy the rising worth of their vintage tubes ring hollow in my ears. i collected any vintage tube for low frequency purposes i could get over a decade now (ECC.., EL.., EF...and many other types) and hope these tiny masterpieces will some days extend my pension...
reissues: why purchase new built tubes - rudely increased in prices meanwhile - when you can get an original? who would ever be happy with a porsche 550 (j. dean) or mercedes 300sl (gull-wing doors) when it is just a remake? would you? i would not...

The times, they are changing...
As I said I rarely sell and can't seem to charge enough to make a profit even if I wanted to. Yes theoretically some of the tubes I have that are desired such as the Sylvania triple mica blackplate 5751s that I have as NOS NIB are worth considerably more than I paid for them. I don't mind knowing I don't have to pay a high price to buy them if I need them but I want to keep them. Maybe someday someone will have to pry my cold dead hands open to get them.

A pair of true NOS 6900's.
