yes, thanks for info. I've never really done the ~.1uf bypass caps on PS electrolytics. But companies like ARC put them in on their best tube preamps such as SP-3, in 2 stages. And I think they know a thing or two.
I can always get 630V-rated Solen caps in 2-5uf values. There may be room for their big diameters.

they can have a bright tinny sound. If they are used, bypassed with 10th value polypro works well and then I think they can do well. Just my opinion after working with the Solen in all types of gear. I advised them to Mike of Quicksilver years ago and he bought a bunch only to tell me they were terrible. I had told him they needed to be bypassed and then do a good job but for some reason he didn't want to do the bypass so he never heard what they can do. For an all in one cap though, there are others but it depends on available area of course.

You are right in that there are better caps than solens but for bypass and filtering, the larger solens are decent..I will not use them in the audio path but I use them in speaker crossovers where no DC is present and there the larger values sound ok also,,Martin Logan uses one big solen in their 130k dollar Statement speakers in the bass crossover..

I understand what you are saying. From my work with them, once bypassed, they step up quite a bit and smooth out but in my experience, only if bypassed, which is inexpensive to do.

with the polypropylene (the orange ones) in .1 and and I would sometimes also use .01, they sound pretty good. You also don't have too much invested.
