Has anyone heard them both? I purchased a quad of VA KT66's for cheap to see if I liked the KT66 sound. Well I do, I wanted to get the Gold Lions as a back up. I think the GL's are a better tube but would have to break in a new set of tubes. What do you think use the VA or GL as backup?

Hi:I didn't have the VA KT66 specifically, but did have a quad of Sino KT66s. In my Tube Audio Design amp I could just get them to bias up. I liked their detailed and holigraphic presentation. I would say they were on the warmer side of neutral. The GL KT66s had a generally simular presentation, though they were more neutral. Both had good bass, with good texture. I think I prefer the GL KT66s, because they have a tad more transparency. I am presently using Tong Sol 6L6g made by New Sensor. Same company that makes the GL brand.

Michael,
How do you like the Tung Sol 6L6G's? And, how would you compare them to the Valve Art/Sino KT66's?
Cheers,
Pat

I have the same amp and find the Russian 6L6 (6n3cE) equivalent to beat the others.

I have a DIY SE triode amp that I use them in.
The GL KT66s have a dynamic presentation
with the best highs you can imagine which
mates them best with Rock and Classical.
The TungSol 6L6g have a warmer texture to them
which is great for Jazz, Folk and Pop.
The Russian 6n3cE was fine but nothing special.
It did everything well but never got me involved.
Better than any EL34, KT77 or 6550 that I tried.
But in the end they just didn't engage me
like the GL KT66s and the TungSol 6L6g
so they just collect dust now.

Hi:
I haven't tried the 6n3cE, though it has gotten good notices on Audio Asylum. I will probably try them at some point, but at present I am happy with the TS 6L6Gs.

...try the Gold Lion's and see which one's you like the best. Use whichever brand comes out on top as the primary quad with the other as a backup.
