Greetings,
I installed a NOS JAN GE 5751 in my Marshall JMP 50 last night. It works perfectly. Weird thing, though. After I turned the amp off and pulled the tube to have a look at it, I noticed that there was a clear round "hole" where the getter had burned the flashing away. When I looked at the tube more closely, I noticed that the getter is actually bent at an angle to where it is making contact with the top of the tube.
My question is, will the tube be damaged and possibly fail with the getter touching the glass, or is this no big deal?
Thanks,
Pat
Follow Ups:
The clear area (probably in the very center of the tube top under the nipple) is very common on many of the later production tubes from GE and Sylvania. I have large number of JAN NOS 5751 tubes with this characteristic. The hole in the flashing is nothing to worry about, nor I believe the bent getter.
Thanks for the reply. The hole is actually off-center and directly where the getter is positioned. I'm relieved to hear that this won't be an issue.
My pleasure. Your post was well timed as I just finished testing a number of these types as well as some GE and Sylvania JAN 12AT7s that suffer from the same peculiarity. No need for concern.
