What kind of primary impedance did the CitV OT have?
Does anyone have any other specs on these transformers? I am curious because I think I am going to base a build on the CitV for my stash of KT66's and 6PS3e tubes and am trying to decide what transformers to use. I have some Dynaco A430's, but would like something maybe with an impedance closer to 6.6k. Something better matched to the 6L6 family.
Follow Ups:
The Cit V trafos are in the 4K area, unfortunately a long way from 6.6K I'm afraid. They apparently have frequency response from 7K to 45K at 40 watts +0, -1 db.; and to 80K at 1 watt, same +0, -1 db.
And now you know everything specs-wise that I do. The V is a hard amp to get much data on.
Years ago I did a turns ration test of my Citation V's OP transformers.
Here's what I found:
16 ohm tap, turns ratio 15.6:1, imp. ratio 244:1, primary imp. 3904 ohms
8 ohm tap, turns ratio 22:1, imp. ratio 494:1, primary imp. 3712 ohms
4 ohm tap, turns ration 31.6:1, imp. ratio 1001:1, primary imp. 4004 ohms
Thanks Jim. I guess the lower impedance was just fine for HK. The load for for 7581's in PP ab2 is lower than 6L6GC, 5881 or KT66 according to the data sheets. So that makes sense. Since I don't plan on running 7581's and don't think I will find any actual HK transformers, I will look at some quality iron in the 5k - 6.6k range.
If you are anyone else have any personal recommendations or know of something that may be a nice fit, please share. Thanks. I wouldn't mind recycling some older iron, or getting some nice Magnequest.
