Hi
What sort of amp is it? I rebuild a lot of Citation II and Citation V amps and on those I manufacture my own using a piece of glass epoxy board on both the inside and outside of the chassis. I then put a set of gold plated modern 5-way binding posts in. In both Citations you can get 3 posts where there were originally 4 of the old screws. So you have to decide which of the 4, 8, or 16 ohm taps to bury inside the amp. Works great though. Also, you take a couple of pieces of scrap epoxy board and use them for shims between the inside and outside pieces. Bomb proof when done and now you can use spades, banana plugs or large bare wire. No more of those silly old screws to mess with. Attached is a photo.
Don't know if this will work for you, but well worth it if it will fit.
cheers,
Don

Hi Don,
Well, I wouldn't call the screws silly - they work quite well for most people - but that's an elegant solution. Problem is, as you said we (mostly you) have to fabricate the pieces - they aren't off the shelf.
And as we discussed long ago there's no room for a post wrench if you want to use hex head 5 way posts. Your parts selection for the posts themselves is a must!
Thanks for the response and the pic!!
Hi Jim,
Agreed on all points. I can do a pair in about an hour now after having done it 20 times!. The terminals are Chinese, about $5 a pair or so, but they are well machined and I have had no trouble with them at all. They grip all types of speaker wire terminations really well, and three of them fit perfectly in that space. Total cost is maybe $20 per amp, but you have to cut blanks of glass epoxy board on your saw. I get a board and use the old Citation screw terminal as a template and saw about 20 of them at a session and put them in the drawer. Then you tape two of them together and drill them at the same time (inner and outer). Finally, you just use a round file to enlarge the holes until the speaker terminals fit. The terminals have plastic collars that have a flange that covers up the hole so they don't need to be perfect. Works great and looks factory installed!
cheers,
Don
Jim,
Another possible solution is to use Pomona screw in banana jacks from Allied.

Yes, I have the ones nerdorama pointed out below on hand too. If you use bananas they are great.Pomona is GOOD stuff!

Hi Eli,
Other than the little angled adapters all over ebay have you ever seen something like the one you just posted that allows you to adapt a screw terminal to take spades? Those little angled ones are OK for banana plugs, but useless for spades.
Don
Hi Eli,
Here's a slightly different option also from Pomona.
Best,
John
