Don
The difference buying them from JIm is peanuts, and we talking maybe 8 to 10 dollars a quad in most cases. You get matched tubes that are matched to standards that will beat ANY factory matching, not to mention they will give you more power, lower distortion, flatter response, and last much much longer.
Did you try them in the cit 2 yet? They are a gem in the douce!
If the power supply waveform isn't pretty, neither is the sound in most cases.

Mike,
Thank you for the kind words.
FYI the next batch I get will have to be $5.00 more due to the higher priced raw stock. Sorry... I hope it's still a good value for everyone.
Jim
If you sold them for 65 a quad,it would be a steal. The more perfectly matched the tubes are,the better sound you get and the longer the tubes last. The Russian sellers do not match them.

Hi Mikey,
Yes, I tried them in the Citation II. They are pretty good. I still liked the Gold Lion reissue KT88 better, and my everyday favorite is the EiKT90 in triode. Magic. But the gold lions are 95% as good, and you could certainly live happily with a number of other tubes including the 6P3S-E. I am sure I will get another quad from Jim as soon as another amp rolls through here in need of anything resembling a 6L6. Geez, a matched quad is something like $50. It just isn't worth ordering 10 of them from Russia for that price unless you have a lot of amps to service! The quad in my Cit. V must have 500 hours on them and they look and test new so I expect they last a long time.
cheers,
Don
I know its not worth buying them Russia. As I have said before,I see people pour tons of money into snake oil BS and thousands of of dollars into cables that are no better many times than ones costing a fraction of their price and yet, they sometimes cringe when they have to spend an extra 10 dollars for get good matched tubes that we know make a killer difference. Go figure!

Don't get them on E-bay!!! I ordered a quad from a well-known E-bay seller (who shall remain nameless since he refunded my cash) and 1 was DOA and 2 others were short! Get them from Jim! Got 2 quads from him and they work great.
I have been comparing these things to my Holy Grail GEC greyglass KT66. They are a bit grainier in the upper mids and treble. Not quite as transparent. Not quite as extended in the treble.Imaging and dynamics not quite as good. But the difference is not huge. The bass may even be better with the Russian tubes. I only have one quad of the greyglass--guess which tubes get the majority of time in my amp. And the 2 quads I got from Jim cost about what I paid for one GEC tube!
Great value and great sound.
Mendel
I found the gec smoke glass a little more transparent also and a little more dynamic as its expected but after you get time on these tubes,I guarantee you the grain disappears. My favorite is still the smoke bottle GEC/GEN but, these are right there with them. The difference we may be hearing may not be the quality of the tube but,it may be the impedance difference. The kt66 is 6.0k PP and the 6P3S-E is 6.6k. I had found different results in different amps but in the Leak ST50,I found your exact results.

Michael:
If they get even better it will be great! I have about 400 or 500 hours on my first set. In my amp, I much perfer these tubes to the Genelex KT88 reissue--but I am not really a KT88 fan. So far--have yet to try a original Tung-Sol or Ge 6550. Those are my next targets.
Hi,
Just out of curiosity, what amp are you using all of these in? As we all know the amp and system are very important in determining which tubes we like the most. I know the Gold Lion KT88 is the best modern production tube I have ever heard in a Citation II. But that is in a Citation II. I completely believe you could prefer something else in a different amp, so am curious as to what gear you are using.
cheers,
Don
Hi Don:
I am using them in a Rogue Audio Stereo 90 amp.Preamp is a modified Audio Research SP14.Source is a J.A, Micheel Orbe/Tecnoarm/Benz M2 and speakers are Totem Hawks. All wiring is Kimber.
The Stereo 90 comes with EH KT88 and was designed for KT88/6550 but can also take EL34,KT66. When I asked Mark at Rogue about 6L6 and EL37 he said he wasn't sure the amp could run those and to be careful. Well I have run 6P3S-E, RCA Blackplate 6L6GC, Tung-Sol 6L6GC-STR,GEC KT66 all with no problem.I have also run GL KT88 re-issue,Mullard XF2 EL34, JJ KT77.
I am drawn to the 6L6/KT66 sound. To me it seems more linear and dynamic than the KT88 sound.More focused, less romanticly tube-like. But I can certainly see how other people could feel differently. Like you said, it all depends on system synergy.
Best Regards,
David
