I think I have some Mullard ECC35s, but not positive. They are identical to the photo of a 1960s Mullard brown base on the tubemonger library site (link below). BTW thanks to tubemonger for the nifty resource. They are labeled Philips Miniwatt ECC35, and have a two line code running vertical on the tube down by the base. Also there is a White "B" on the bottom of the center guide post on the base. The code on the glass is: RU4 on one line and: B1E on the second line. I've heard that Philips owned Mullard for awhile. These sound great, are these really Mullards?

Looks like a Mullard to me. I agree that it is the best 6SL7 type I have ever heard...
To me they are by far the best of the 6SL7 family, but very rare. Super detail yet smooth (detail and smooth are often contraindicated), with the tightest bass I've ever heard. At least in my equipment, they beat everything by a lot, including the highly regarded Mullard ECC35 50s brown base tall boy.

Philips bought and relabeled them Miniwatt. Valvo and Lorenz did the same thing (see picture above). That tube is fantastic. Buy them whenever you find them for a decent price. The 50s brown base is slightly more musical than the 60s black base---but that is splitting hairs. After a lot of tube-rolling, that tube remains by far the most musical 6SL7/ECC35 imo.
but the B1E usually means Blackburn '51 or 61 May production. That's according to the factory Philips codes which you can find on the Triode Electronics website. Philips bought out Mullard way back in 1927, IIRC.
