Hi,
I just bought this baby and I'll like to know if there's a tube that is better than the stock tubes.
Follow Ups:
You may want to try some GE 6550A in the power section. They are crisp and detailed. They sound great in my amps..and they may be a good alternative in your PLDII.
Good luck!
Gold Lion reissue KT88's, CBS-Hytron 5814's and Mullard ECC83's are a hard to beat combination, IME. You may want to start by replacing the stock EH 12AX7's. The Dialogue is made in China and why they don't stock those amps with Shuguang 12ax7's is beyond me. A much better sounding tube, to my ears.
have worked well for me in 2 tube amps, Rogue Atlas and Quicksilver Mini-Mites They have sounded more relaxed in the mids and also with better top-end extension than everything I have tried in current production.
I have a different amp than you do, but right now I am listening to some pretty nice music with Russian 6L6 power tubes: 6N3CE. They don't have quite the mid-range that the Tung-Sol 6L6GCSTR has, but the top end is just so lovely. I am listening to some choral music that brings that out by Jan Garbarek, The Hilliard Ensamble.

Depends on what you want to do with the tone. You have a lot of tonal options within each of the tube types that amp will take. In your place I'd listen to it for a few months and see what you might like to achieve by changing tubes.
That helped me in finding the tubes I like the best for my Quckies. It's a place to start, at least.

Even specific recommendations from PLDII owners (and I suspect the poster will encounter few) will have little meaning if the person doing the recommendation is not acquainted with the sonic signature of the amps in which they will be placed, the sound of the tubes in current use in the amp and system (for comparative purposes), and most importantly what aspects of sound are important to the poster. For example, I have a Prologue amp - with speaker 'A' I really liked an xxx brand 6550, and with speaker 'B' I much preferred an xxx brand KT88. Generic uninformed advise is IMHO worth no more than what it costs. Folks are trying to be helpful and mean well, but the person most likely to benefit is a tube seller.
The Quickies can take anything from KT66-KT88 with all the other in-between tubes as well. After asking questions and talking with people here and other owners, I had a "short" list of JJ KT77, T-S 6L6GCSTR, T-S 6550 Reissue. I have the first two: very different sounding tubes in some ways, but i enjoy them both for different reasons. I continue to experiment and build on my experience base, thanks to others here.
I have no idea to describe what I like in a tube. I don't A-B tubes either. I just sit down and listen for a few days and, if I like it, I do and if not, I don't. That is that.

I'm guessing (and it's just that ) the re-issue Genalex KT 88s would be the ticket.
It appears that the stock tubes are just that, Genalex. That will be fine for now. I'll keep looking after I listen to the stock tubes.
I believe the stock tubes are Chinese KT 88s not the Russian Genalex reissues. You can find better small signal tubes also. IIRC Kevin Deal has posted that the 12ax7s have the most impact on the sound (of the small signal tubes). Search for his posts and you should be able to find it.
