They only have 6 pins! Is this an "economy" feature?
They are brand new. Do you cut the tops or bottoms of the box open?
I am running them in a cathode-biased amp. What signs of matching should I look out for? Anything to be done if they are poorly matched? I have dual volume controls if that helps.

To answer your questions. Get the box open any way you can, top, bottom don't matter. The reason they only have 8 pins is that that is all the connections that are necessary to wire the internal elements.
To find out how well they match up see how equal the voltage is on pin eight to ground from tube to tube, with the amp idling. To see how many ma the tubes are running at measure the voltage at pin eight and divide by the resistance of the cathode resistor, if each tube has a separate cathode resistor, if a pair shares a common cathode resistor that is for two tubes, so divide by half for a single tube. To find out what plate dissipation you're running subtract the voltage of pin 8 from pin 3 and multiply by your ma.
Example, let's say cathode (pin 8) to ground voltage is 50V and the cathode resistor is 1k ohms then 50/1000 = .05 amp or 50ma, that's how many ma your tube is running at. If the voltage on the anode (pin 3) is 450v and the voltage on the cathode (pin 8) is 50V then subtract 450-50=400v (net voltage across the tube) then multiply 400V times the 50ma example: 400 X .05 = 20 watts of dissipation.
And yes I have tried them and like them, the coin base ones are the "E" versions, and the ones to get. They are the ones that Michael Samra has been raving about as well.
