It says "Western Electric announces the acquisition of the electron tube assets of Ei European Operations."No other details to be had on that site, and a google news search revealed nothing.
All I want is a new-production 12AX7 as sweet (and hardy, thanks, ARC) as a Telefunken. =OD Maybe good ole westrex can deliver?
Naah, too much trouble. x.x

Hello,
Well, I received an email response from one Charles Whitener at the Westrex Corporation. He confirms that WE is indeed working on a new 12AX7 tube. Here is a copy of the email I sent and the response he gave:
Hello,
I see that you folks have recently acquired the electron tube assets of Ei and was wondering: are you planning to produce a 12AX7 tube? I have been waiting for a new production 12ax7 that isn't manufactured in China or some former Soviet Union satellite where high quality is perhaps a secondary consideration. The thought of having an American company once again producing the 12ax7 along with possibly several other types just warms the cockles of my heart. Please tell me it's true and if so, when can we expect the process to begin? Thanks for your time.
CW's response:
Yes we are working on it please watch our website.

While I would have liked a little more detail in the response, this is indeed a confirmation that a United States company will soon be in the business of making 12AX7's (and other types) once again. Can't wait!
The original Ei tubes were made from the Telefunkin equipment and designs, and at least the 12AX7, 12AU7 and 12AT7 tubes were in my opinion the best in current production. If WE changes the design, we can only hope that it is at least as good as the old Ei production tubes. I would like to see them continue with the original Ei designs, and as well design some new 12AX7 tubes that could rival the old Ting-Sol, RCA and other USA tubes of the past.
PS I have a nice stash of the old Ei tubes until some one designs and builds a better one.

I have emailed the folks at Western Electric about the Ei acquisition but have received no response. Can there really be any doubt about their intentions? They will no doubt begin/restart production of several different tube types - hopefully including a redesigned/improved 12AX7 - that will redefine quality for new vacuum tubes. Let us all hope that WE will put America back on the map for vacuum tube technology.
