  Fred.. The Cary 50B is very good and is a good match for SET's.. very simple design, fair price. I am running the Thor TA-1000 with my Cary amps and it is a great combo.

  Try a VAC preamplifier. Current model is called "Standard". Replaced
  the CPA-1 MK II which I own, which in turn made my Cary 572-3 come to
  life. Goto: www.vac-amps.com

  Some like the Audio Prism Mantissa too! Also, used Audio Note M2.

  I recently (and very briefly) heard the above amps with an AI3A with stock tubes - Seemed to work quite well actually.
