Does anyone have a EL84 tube that they are likeing in a Heathkit amp? I have been doing research, but some of the info says that a tube like the EI and TOD are not a good match with Heathkits because of frame grid voltage (which I don't really understand, to be honest!)

If you want to save time and money, go for the heavy-duty Russian 6P14EB tubes. These tubes will last a very long time, and have nice sound. Some people spend too much on Vintage 7189 only to have them run out of steam after 6 month's of frequent use.You can buy these tubes from several places. Ebay has them. The best one's are in original "Radio Lampa" brand.
Upscale Audio sells them tested. A.k.a. as Russian 7189.
I bought mine from the Ebay seller link below. A quad of these tubes made one Mesa Boogie 50 Caliber Guitar amp act like it was injected with anabolic-steroids, and the smile on the owner's face as he strummed his Strat was worth every penny. Lot's of headroom.

Have used this tube in my Dynaco ST-35 and also an old Olson AM-240 amp. They sound good and most of all never any red-plates to deal with.
I have about 4 quads on Sylvania, RCA, Sovtel EL-84 and one quad of Black-Plate EL-84's with no brand that sound OK but don't hold up like a real 7189/6P14EB.
NOS 7189's are so expensive today that it's not worth the extra money as getting real-new-unused one's is a lottery.
