These amps seem to run rather hot. The left centre top and side of the chassis opposite the 845 output tube are warmest. Not so on the right side in the same area. I can keep my hand on the warmest area for a quick eight count and no longer. Have any owners noted this to be the case? 50 watts class A will produce a lot of heat , but this seems a bit excessive. Both monoblocks are hot in the same area. Also one of the 300B tubes has a good deal more of a blueish glow than the other. Could this be an indication that one/both of these tubes are malfunctioning? The sound is great however ,but one always worries that destruction may be imminent. Any owners noticed these aspects or am I being anal ?
Hi KP,I too own the Cary 805C amps. The heat and blue glow is normal, depending on the tubes--various tubes can come in the Carys depending on how you order them. Cetrons will also glow blue to varying degrees--it just means there is a little atmosphere in the tube (gas) that the vacuum process didn't quite remove--it shouldn't be a problem.

It should be normal, and your 300B should be a pair of Golden Dragon or from China 4-300B, the blueish from it is normal, and even one is bright than the other, but cannot too different.
Thanks Y2K. I don't own these (sadly). The 300b is, I believe a Western Electric.
Hi KP,The difference in the temperature of the chassis sides is due to a pair of power resistors mouunted to the chassis top in that location. Nothing wrong, it's quite normal. And yes, you should have WE 300B's, as that's what the amps are shipped with from the factory. The blue glow is nothing to worry about. The WE's should be runnin' for many, many moons, as at 60 mA's, they're hardly breaking a sweat. Just check the bias regularly (monthly or so), and you're good to go.
