I've was able to acquire a Mapletree Audio Design pre-amp the Ultra 4-A and I am veryinterested in upgrading the tubes and power cord.I would like to know hat the best 12SX7GT tube is and where to buy them.
If not that what are some good 12SX7GT's and where can I get those.

RES, a low priced seller, shows the 12SX7 at $30 per tube. That indicates scarcity. I have no 1st hand experience, but across types, RCA and TungSol are safe bets.

Hey-Hey!!!,
I got a few of these, RCA, and though they are marked properly as SX7, I think they rolled out of the aging rack with SN7's. They look jusst like any of my other RCA 12SN7. They do sound good though...I would ony buy early 50's production if I got any more, preferably mid 40's to be assured of getting what I suspect might be 'true' 12SX7.
Either way, none of them, including a few older ones can hold a candle to an old 14N7, so I have given up on them, with the exception of rigging the linestage sockets octal and 8BD. I have a sack of adapters, pair of 12A4, 12B4, 5687, 14N7, 6H6Pi, 14N7, E80CC, 12BH7A. Now I just need to try rigging a pair of 1626> > 8BD and I can call it done...

Douglas

Doug,
If I could find some that didn't get noisy after a little bit, I would. Seems like 5 mA is too much for them, regardless of what the manual's op point is listed at...
