I found a 6LS8 valve which does not appear in any of my valve data books and I was wondering if anyone knew what it was used for. I am sending a box of valves to South Africa with a friend and we would like to ID it before it is packed. It has the letters IX, 9H, etched into the glass but according to my info it is an ECC189 but it is not a twin triode so this is not applicable to this valve.

are you sure you dont mean a 6LF8? Take a closer look.Also is this a 9 pin or octal or what?

That tube does not show up anywhere, not even on large internet sites. Not even on my expanded tube test chart that goes into the 1970s.
