Has anyone had any experience with CJ mods. In particular I own an MV-55 and a PV-12. I know that Conrad Johnson offers a triode mod for the MV-55 but haven't heard anyone who has done it.
Connaissez-vous un site où je peux voir tous les modèles de CJ

Check your MV-55. It was my understanding that it is switchable between ultralinear and triode mode. If not, give CJ a call or drop an email (see http://www.conradjohnson.com for contact info) and they will send you the instructions to do it yourself. I triode modded an MV- 52 based on data they sent me. It was a *very* easy mod.BTW, I noticed quite an improvement in the ease and presentation of the amp. If you can give up the power, it is definitely worth it.

If you are refering to the 45 amp built in a CJ MV-45, you are talking about a complete scrapping of the original circuit. I must admit that I don't have any particular fondness for the MV-45, since I had nothing but trouble with the power supply blowing up on a number of occasions on a unit I had 10 years ago. However CJ stood behind my unit and gave me the original purchase cost in trade towards an MV-50 (since upgraded to MV-52 and subsequently triode converted).Frankly, I would not do anything more drastic on an MV-55 than triode conversion (if it needs it) and tube rolling. Any more would destroy its value, and it is still a currently available and well regarded amplifier that has a good resell value.
MV55 owners past and present. Have you done any tube rolling with this amp such as substituting 5751s for the 12AX7s or replacing the 6SN7s with NOS?
I had a MV55 for awhile. Changeing the Sovtek EL34s with Svetlana EL34s made a decent improvement. Changing the Sovtek 6SN7s to GE NOS 6SN7 made no difference to my ears. Changing the Sovtek 12AX7s to Mullard 12AX7s didn't seem to make a difference either.
Three days ago I received a pair of RCA black base 6SN7s and Raytheon 5751s.The 6SN7s seem to make a difference in that the presentation is somewhat more relaxed, smoother more liquid, though the difference is not vey large. The 5751s do not seem to alter the sound. Of course the tubes have not had much time to burn in, and differences may show up with longer term listening.I am wondering if certain amps (or preamps) respond more to tube changes than others.
BTW what did you replace the MV55 with?
Breakin could be a factor. The GE 6SN7s were new and could be why I didn't get any improvement (not to mention GE 6SN7s don't get very high regard) but the Mullard 12AX7s I tried were out of another piece of gear, therefore were broken in. I replaced my MV55 with a Pass Aleph 3. Since I have gotten the Pass all uge for amplifier changes have gone away (going on 10 months now!) except the ocasional daydreams of some huge, overly expensive (ie: can't afford) 845 based SET amps.
