Follow Ups:
Check out the following link for schematics of popular guitar amplifiers (mostly vintage). I don't think you'd have too much trouble using your GZ34 in the power supply instead of silicon diodes. You just have to make sure you don't go over the limit on the input capacitance allowable for the gz34. Or consider something like the marshall JTM 45 that uses a tube rectifier. A tube rectified jtm45 with kt66's would be mighty nice, imo (think early clapton). Oh, and a vintage partridge output tranny if you can find one.
,have fun

I was able to buy one of the following for less than I would have spent for parts. And then modified it.

Jo,Will get the address. once I get back home. There are plenty of very good 50 watt Fenders to choose from. From super clean, great for slide guitar Super to great for Blues Bassman. And a lot of in betweens, like the Tremolux or Vibroverb.
What kinda tone are you after? Front end topo and speakers make a world of difference. Along with the "iron" used (transformers). I find that basing the amp after a known amp is the best way to get close to the tone.
And don't sweat the power tubes. You can get 6L6GC to really sound Bluesy by voicing the pre-amp section right. Another thought is a quad 6V6GT amp. You'll get a loud, creamy amp with better overtones, at lower volumes---than most p-p twin 6L6GC amps, IMO.
Good luck... will look for that Fender link.
This site, along with Teagle & Sprung's "Fender Amps" book can help you narrow down the circuit and speakers of Fender's many 45-50 watt amps which you are after.
