Do you run your amps at 60 watt triode or full 120 watts? What speakers are you using with you amps? What is their sensitivity rating?
Follow Ups:
I'm using the Rogue M-120 Magnum mono's and also a Rogue 99 pre w/ a pair of Magnepan 1.6's (83db?)for speakers.I used to run my 120 in triode mode. Sounded fuller and more rich at lower volumes. But when the music got cranked the lower end got 'mushy' for lack of a better word and the highs seemed a bit compressed.
I almost always run the in 'ultralinear' mode now. Makes the Maggies sing wonderfully at high volumes (though triode is still better at low volumes in my opinion). Depends on your other gear but I think 'ultralinear' is the way to go unless you have really efficient speakers and brighter components.
Its easy to switch back and forth w/out removing the cover...just take out the 2 tubes closest to the front of the unit and make the switch. Mark O'brian showed me that as a quick way to go back and forth (basically how to make thw switch w/out removing the cover etc...).
I used them to drive Monitor Audio Gold Reference 60's (90dB sensitivity). I found the ultralinear mode was much fuller and more accurate sounding then triode (too thin and weak).

Triode sounded mushy, with no crispness to percussion. Overall, yes, weak. Made it sound mushy and distorted.
Yes, I feel the same about the crispness. Less sparkle at the top end in triode mode, also the mid is a bit bloated.
I'm using them to drive a pair of Proac 1.5.
