Just purchased a used 66 from a respected Audiogon seller and there seems to be a problem with the large source selector knob (I think!). Specifically, the phono stage seems to be static-y and noisy with the sound coming in and out - problem is intermittent, more common in right speaker. The source selector knob seems to be loose and when I "jiggle" it I hear static. When I "jiggle" it into the right position the noise is minimized and output seems to be ok but I still get some interference during record play, particularly weird feedback-type noise with recorded piano. Also, when I touch knobs the sound seems to be transmitted to the right speaker and I hear feedback. Problem also happens a bit with the CD line but the other lines seem to be ok.

Viewing your system I see we ahave a few things in common w/ our equipment.I agree w/ what was said on the past posts about making sure everything is tight and testing each tube.
sounds to me like its a bad tube + if you can jiggle it than it's not right. The 66 magnum is a great unit. definitely worth fixing and getting the enjoyment out of!
From my experience with Rogue they are the most helpful manufacturers I know and will do the best they (mark o'brian or mark walker) can to get your unit back to tip top condition as soon as possible. Of course their knowlege of their products, and any possible faults, is great.
Sounds like a microphonic phono stage tube. Does it do it with the line stage too? If so, possibly a bad line stage tube. How about just tapping the chasis? It should ring then as well.I would suggest checking the tubes one at a time and by process of elimination, finding the bad one, if indeed there is one. From what you describe, that would be my first advice.
it sounds like preigsisting damage to the selyor knob to me.

I'm wondering myself if this was a pre-existing problem. Of course, he states that he NEVER had this problem with the unit, and until I hear from Rogue themselves, I'll defer judgment (I have sent them an email and am eagerly awaiting their response). Hopefully this will all sort itself out and it will be something easy to fix...

Hi, why don't you call Rogue up, other inmates have posted on the great help they have received. But otherwise, have you taken the cover off and taken a close look at the switch? Maybe there is something that you can tighten up. If the other inputs are ok, why not move the CD player to one of those, until you can get it solved. Actually though, calling Rogue would be the best bet.
