I've been thinking of getting there phono pre-amp.Anyone heard it compared to the EAR 834P, Herron, or other tube phono pre?
Thanks for your ideas.
I can't make it without a good phono pre. Looks like I'm getting a factory modified jolida 302B :>) ..
I'm kind of excited considering it's the least expensive piece I've bought in a while. I hope to find it satisfying.
Follow Ups:
... which is a good, inexpensive introduction to SET. I have one on the basement system (currently driving bastardized old Heathkit 2-ways now equipped with EV Wolverine LS8 FR's and the original Heath-supplied Jensen RP-103 horn tweeters). FWIW, right this minute the SE84B has Sovtek EL84's and an Amperex 6922 driver. This is a good sounding amp, and very cute, but power is limited and the bass is a bit weak.Overall, I prefer my Bottlehead Paramour 2A3 DHT SET monoblocks, but of course you have to build 'em :-)
I think Decware's phono preamp is rather expensive... Doc B's "Seduction" phono pre kit is now available I think, and quite reasonably priced... I had a brief listen to an alpha-version of the "Seduction", but I can't offer much of an opinion.
Did this help any?
The SE84C is indeed a sweet little amp. Talk to Steve at Decware about his phono preamp. I would guess he's only sold a few units of it so far, so there aren't any reviews out yet. He does offer a 30-day evaluation period on most of his stuff--and a LIFETIME warranty!

I don't know about the phono either but use a SE84C with a MAD Octal 6 preamp and like the combo a lot. Did some minor tube rolling - see my system for details.Regards,
wow, I also have an octal 6 driving a tweaked se84-c and love the combo. flea powered but super fast and super sweet.
I can't say anything about the phono pre. However, I own a pair of DECWARE SE84B "flea" power SE amps; they sound GOOD.

hey-hey!!!,
I heard Eli's SE amps, they dod sound good. Nice fast sparkle, though as he stated, flea powered. Can't have everything. DIstinctly different from Firefli's 12B4A, which I heard at the same time. Nice SE sound. PP is where I live though, using the Binford 6100 mono pair of PP class A amps, grunt-grunt-grunt, here Al, hold this wire...I don't think so Tim.

Douglas

I'm trying to cajol my cabinet maker uncle in Richfield into making me some cabinets, probably 1" MDF, for a pair of Paradox 3's for me to be ready at xmas time. His 17 y.o. audio-geek son will do the assembling. If you're interested in hearing them through a Jolida 1501 integrated, I most likely will be in MSP at xmas time for a visit and to help pack them up for shipping to my home in Oregon. My audio-geek cousin also has a pair of Watt Puppy clones with a Dayton Titanic sub, both which he built himself that look and sound quite impressive. I think I can get the kit, cabinets and shipping for the 3's for @ $700.00. I will keep you posted with further developments.

I'll be staying in the Twin Cities over Xmas, so I would like to hear the P 3's. Do keep me posted and let me know your schedule. I work at home and am free to come and go. During the daytime works best for me.Thanks
