I would not risk it unless the old sockets looked like the pins were noticeably corroded. There is always a chance of wiring mistake or breaking the lead of a component while you were making the changeover

Those are valid points, but I don't think he has a choice. If the sockets are worn out, they need to go. Yep, it's a lot of work...

I just number the wires, unsolder them, R&R three tube sockets (6 screws total), then solder the numbered wires to the new pins.
Unless I'm drinking at the time, it shouldn't take too long to do.

It's usually helpful to take a few photos at different angles. Documentary evidence can be very useful a few years down the pike.
The problem is finding those photos years later.
