Mike,
Have you tried Copper V-Caps (CuTF) as couplers? Not necessarily in a ST-70 but in any amp or preamp.

Nope. Just the Teflons. I like the Solen Film and Tin foil caps a lot to.My favorite is still the K40y overall along with the Vitamin Q caps.

Fair enough. However, I would encourage you to try some CuTF caps just to see what they can do. I can't guarantee you will like them as much as I do, but I am pretty sure you will like them. Of course, it wouldn't be practical to use CuTF caps for every project but on ones where the budget permits it would be helpful to have Copper V-Caps as an option.
I'd second the CuTFs. Although they may expose a weakness somewhere else. Also consider the Jupiter cooper foil and wax which are cheaper but very nice and a little more forgiving. The polystyrene RTXs have great tonal balance but are too dry sounding in some systems. Of course if you like what you've got, maybe don't mess with it.
I have rebuilt a half dozen ST-70's over the last 15 years, reproduction boards, new boards, Mu stage, etc. The last one, in current use, is VTA octal w/the Jupiter copper and wax caps. Definitely the best so far; although, I am tempted to try the K and K with the x-former phase splitter.
Hi,
Have you tried the Mapletree Audio board (Mullard type circuit)? If you did, any feedback on sonics? Thanks..
That's one I haven't tried,
I have tried Curcio repro, Curcio new, Triode Electronics, Welborne Labs, VTA and VTA octal.
I'm sure I will like them.I like the Audyn caps to.A lot of people don't know this but many companies will send you sample pieces of their products to try if you call the company to talk to a sales rep.You have to be reasonable of course for instance, you can't call Jensen and say, send me 4 pieces of your 400 dollar silver foil paper in oil caps or your Deulands.

And I still have my K40Y caps in my 6B4G ST-70 from years ago, and I'm still using it. I've had a quad of Obbligato caps that I was going to try after the K40Y, but I never bothered. This amp is so far from stock you can't really call it an ST-70.
Only in the last few months I started thinking of modding it to go interstage transformer, but haven't moved on that either.

I remember that amp you had built. You used the VTA board right? I want to built one of those.

It was the Curcio "premium" board. From the looks of things he quit the Dynaco Doctor business and went to work for Apple.
