My damn tube roller broke...The HF-20 was a complete rebuild, not just a cap change. Come back when you can show us something you built, Kelly.

You are very right, Vinnie. My apologies...for a brief second, I thought I was in the Vintage Asylum. I will try to limit all following posts to Tube DIY.I have a specific question for you, however. I have a pair of Welborne Labs Moondog Monoblocks as you probably know. Since you have experience in this matter, I was wondering how you could run the Moondog Monoblock circuit designed for its own PS transformer on one Stereo chassis off one power supply? I am considering the heavy duty 12-ply Birch top plate/chassis with Dixie Cup Footers instead of the standard 9-ply.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

With all do respect...I find it amazing how some are able to so exclusively and tenaciously adhere to a single forum, as if all absolutely related topics are alien, deserving nothing more than ridicule and criticism. And the 'offender,' in this case Mobile Homeless for providing what I thought to be an extremely well-placed illustration of the original Eico amp, banished to some other 'more appropriate' territory. Mobile H. had no reason to apologize for his 'intrusion,' and to think is was such, in my opinion, reveals an obvious lack of genuine interest in this fascinating field of tube audio and electronics. Sorry, KH, I'm the one who is intruding here, I know...
I for one, was wondering what the original EICO looked like -- and this very quickly obtained and informative picture of one answered that question.
Sending one person away because of what is shallowly perceived as alien or foreign is not much different from prehistoric rock-throwing. From the post that Mobile Homeless left, with his usual extremely high quality pictures, we gained increased understanding and education. I appreciated it, and the one who told him to 'get out of this forum' and go to the vintage hi fi jail is the one who should apologize, not he!
Seriously! We have got to have better things to do than act like Sheriffs of the Audio Asylum! It's that kind of attitude that make me want to just sign off from this place.

I can't help you with specifics, Kelly, but I can tell you it will be quite an education if you follow through on it. I have found some interesting results using stereo set ups with less B+ than originally called for. I just used the biggest power tranny I had (not too big of course)and gave it a shot by cranking it up slow with a variac. Usually I would end up anywhere from 30 to 50 vdc below the schem B+. Basically I just hung two channels off a mono supply. Some worked and some didn't. Eli's post gives more info. His choke values are higher than what I have been using though. Take a look a the PS on the JE Labs 300B on Joseph Esmilla's web site or Angela's site. It is intended to be a mono amp but I have had good luck with it running as a PS for a stereo amp on Mutha.

Kelly,Obviously you will need a power transformer with a large enough VA rating to supply both amp sections.
If you get a unit with the higher secondary voltage needed, a single GZ37 feeding a choke I/P filter can deliver 350 mA. continuously. Use a 15-10 Hy. "swinging" choke and a 10 muF Solen as the 1st filter cap. Follow with separate 20 Hy. chokes to each amp section and more capacitance after each of the 20 Hy. chokes. That setup should give you adequate isolation between the 2 channels and very low ripple.

wasn't that supposed to be a sarcastic post referencing a thread on the set asylum?!
