7 1/2 IPS on a 7" open reel, YES I would support that ...as long as we were not talking about a $50+ tape. I think that 7" reels at 7 1/2 IPS sound OUTSTANDING and it would be nice to get NEW TAPES again, but I'm not down with all this Custom Players and Heads and $100+ for a tape.

Follow Ups:
It would be more than $50 per tape, even at 7.5 ips. These guys are cutting 45 rpm dual LP releases which sell for $50 each. Under $100 per tape for a master dub done in real-time would be a bargain. Remember, there aren't any hi-speed Ampex duplication facilities around anymore. Tape duplication of this sort would almost certainly have to be done a few tapes at a time, real-time. By the time you figure raw tape cost, duplication time, rights fees, and a profit for the folks involved, it just can't be substantially less than $100 per release.
But for me, the choice between a $100 master tape dub and a $50 45rpm LP pressing is a no brainer. The tape will sound better and last longer. Plus, you can get pro-quality half-track tape decks used for about $500 or less; a top notch turntable, arm and cartridge will set you back at least $2500. So, take the $2000 you save and buy 20 tapes!

...which is why they will probobly not get off the ground with this one. The demand would be so small, it will cost a fortune to do!
Reel to reel, as someone already mentioned, went out of production BECAUSE of the cost in the first place and at that time, it really wasn't that bad (at least I thought it wasn't bad). I have several store bought tapes from yester years that I have held onto and they still sound GREAT.
CD's and iPod are NOT the way in the light for sound at all but the wife and the kids Love em' so we're stuck with em as far as mass market goes. Vinyl has made an Amazing comeback but it's not as good as those MAG TAPES at all. If we could just get the cost down...I think we could have something GREAT on our hands. Get more people interested.

I think you might underestimate the demand for 15 ips master dubs at $100-200 per issue. Buy a recent copy of Stereophile or The Absolute Sound and take a look at how many $10,000 vinyl setups are being reviewed in those magazines. If there is considerable demand for $10,000 turntables (and all these companies wouldn't be cranking them out if there wasn't), there is going to be demand for $200 master tapes. Not millions, mind you; not even hundred-thousands, but 5,000 - yes, I can see that being possible. So let's say you decide to do a project like this, release 10 albums a year and sell 5,000 copies of each, making a modest $10 profit per sale. That's $500,000 in profit. Not a huge amount; nothing Sony or any mainstream company would even blink at. But enough to get a music-loving entrepreneur interested.
